UNC Charlotte’s GRE General Prep Course provides 24 instructional hours, covering Reading Comprehension, Sentence Completion, Analogies, Antonyms, Problem Solving, Quantitative Comparison, Analytical Writing, and a comprehensive review of the mathematical concepts tested on the GRE.  Students will be given the opportunity to practice test taking by using actual GRE questions from former tests.  All course materials are included in the registration fee and include a copy of the latest edition of the official test prep book for the GRE General Test, Practicing to Take the GRE General Test; a 200-page GRE Student Manual; a targeted practice program; and use of the computer adaptive PowerPrep software.

All instructors are qualified GRE content professionals and possess previous classroom teaching experience. Please click on the course you are most interested in for specific instructor information.

Testimonials

From 2009 GRE Exam Prep participant, Tara Zolnikov: I just wanted to send you a note to let you know that not only have I been accepted into the Epidemiology doctorate program at Harvard, but I was offered a HUGE NIOSH scholarship to go with my admittance. :) I accepted the offer and will be attending Harvard next year! Thank you so much for your help in making my dream come true! Thank you!!

From Pam Russell, a GRE Prep Course Participant: “Just wanted to let you know that I retook the GRE yesterday.  Previously I had scored a 890, 400 on math and 490 on English.  My new test score was 1060, 530 on both math and English.  I just wanted to thank you for the class.  It really helped me not only with my math skills but with my confidence level.  I would certainly consider myself a GRE champion!!”

From Chad Chastain, a GRE Prep Course participant: “This is just a short note to let you know I took the GRE today and I improved 100 points over the practice test I took at the beginning of your course… The verbal was exactly like you taught it. I had my great improvement in this area…Thanks for your help!”

From Narayan Mahon, a GRE Prep Course participant: “Well, I took the [GRE] test today and my total score went up 230 points! Thanks for all the help!”

From Courtney Fletcher, a GRE Prep Course participant: “I just want to formally thank you [Steve Shotts] for making the GRE class both easy to understand and humorous…I thought you were a very talented instructor who was able to teach others the rather numerous concepts needed to master the GRE…I appreciate the sincerity and the seriousness with which you approach a group of individuals who are preparing to take a test that may ultimately change their lives!”

From a GRE Prep Course participant: “I was in your June GRE class and have been admitted to the Ed.D. program at NC State, which was my first-choice program.  Thanks again!”

From “Katie,” who took our GRE Prep Course: “…I got a 1090 on my GRE. This well exceeds the score I need to get into the program for which I’m applying, and I’m just elated.  There is no way that I could have done as well without the help of the GRE class [Steve] taught – my initial test score was a 920, and I was able to bring that up 170 points, based on the skills and strategies you provided.  Thanks so much – the class was truly a worthwhile experience.”

From a GRE Prep Class participant to Steve Shotts, a GRE Prep Course instructor: “After taking your class…I had a 180-point increase [in my GRE exam score].  I have never been strong in the verbal section, and I believe you really helped in increasing my verbal score on the GRE.  Your help with the math section was amazing as well.  I really appreciate your dedication to the course…thank you.”
