PDS178 Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making


Program Description/Overview
Everyone thinks. Critical thinking is a mode of thinking about any subject or problem in which the thinker improves the quality of thinking by taking charge of the process and imposing intellectual standards on that structure. This one-day course provides methods, tools, and practice for a five-step, problem-solving, and decision-making model. Participants will apply these tools to individual, team, and organizational problems.

  • Personal thinking style inventory and practice using multiple styles
  • Problem definition – a problem well defined is 80% solved

  • How to define and analyze a problem from multiple perspectives
  • Application of a 5-step problem solving model
  • Understand six levels of learning and six ways of thinking
  • Complete a thorough problem definition and analysis process
  • Apply tools such as “Jeffersonian" method, mind mapping, decision matrix, and force field analysis
  • Facilitation skills to better solve team problems
