Developed for prospective elementary and special education teachers in North Carolina, this course addresses the 11 content objectives that are tested on the NC General Curriculum Math Subtest. For each objective, participants work through a carefully-sequenced set of tasks designed to develop content knowledge and problem-solving skills. Once an answer is submitted, feedback is immediate and participants can watch recorded video of an instructor working through the answer with a small group. Many of the questions have guiding questions or hints that provide additional support. The module for each objective starts with foundational content that is meant to be non-intimidating, even for those who have struggled with math in the past. The problems slowly get more complex, until participants are solving problems similar to those that will appear on the actual test.
- Number and Operations
- Measurement and Geometry
- Statistics and Probability
- Answering the Open Response question
The goal of this course is to develop the math content knowledge and problem-solving skills necessary to pass the NC General Curriculum Math Subtest. In addition to learning the math, you will also learn 5 important problem-solving strategies that will be very helpful when taking the exam. The end of the module features a practice test and a participants' score on that practice test will give them a good indication of whether they are prepared to take the actual exam.

Before the online math [test prep], I was sure I would not be able to pass the North Carolina General Curriculum test. By the time I finished with [the test prep], I was confident and I did pass the test. I even did better in the math section than the multi-subject section. What I like the most was the way it was set up with scaffolding. You could try each problem on your own first and then if you were having trouble you could get more instruction via videos and step by step instructions. Then you could go back and try them again. I watched all the videos even if I got the problems right without them. This helped me make sure I understood the process and did not just get the right answer by chance. I highly recommend this [test prep] for anyone who is preparing for a big test or just needs some help with math.
I just wanted to tell you thank you so much for everything you put on Canvas for the NC General Curriculum math! I did all the modules at home and found them so helpful. I just got my score report back today and I passed! The first time I took the test I made a 211, and this time I raised it all the way up to a 248! I just felt as if I should share the good news. Thank you!
