Course Overview

Minecraft provides an environment which is very engaging and filled with opportunities for learning. This camp will combine the ‘fun’ aspect of Minecraft with engineering/programming concepts. Campers will be introduced to simple coding and hardware design. Command blocks will be used to program automated building devices using Boolean conditions and a simple scripting language. Redstone logic will be used to create physical circuits such as AND, OR, and NOT gates.

Campers will complete projects ranging from programming a simple entity detector to building a binary adder. In addition, campers will also participate in ‘group challenges’ where they will need to work together to create something to overcome the challenge. This will teach them teamwork, how to plan a design, and how to cooperate with their peers on projects.

Prerequisites

Campers are required to purchase their own copy of Minecraft for PCs prior to camp. If they do not already own a copy, they can obtain one at https://minecraft.net/store before the camp. Campers will also need to know the username and password that they use for the game login.
