In today’s economy, a high school diploma is not enough. In fact three-quarters of the fastest-growing occupations require education and training beyond a high school diploma. However, national data indicates that 20 percent of students who have applied to college are waitlisted. Combined with an increase in competitive admissions to top universities and concerns with affordability, students and families are feeling the pressure and anxiety related to the college planning and application process. As such, college and career advisors should have fundamental knowledge and skills to deliver services that are equity focused, culturally responsive, and reflect the needs of individual students and families.
